On Friday, February 17, 2017 the IRS and state tax industries warned tax professionals to be alert of a new phishing email scam impersonating software providers.
This new phishing scam comes via email with “Access Locked” in the subject line. In the body of the email tax professionals are told their account has been “suspended due to errors in your security details”. The email asks the individual to correct the issue by using the “Unlock “link in the email. As like other phishing emails, this link will take you to a fake web page, where your username and password is requested. Cybercriminals are waiting with their stolen credential to access the accounts and to steal your information.
Note that Payroll Data Services will never send you an email with a link to unlock your account. Never open these links or respond directly to these emails.
